Maya Stein is a writer and poet-person living in San Francisco. She has published two collections of personal essays, The Overture of an Apple (2003) and Spinning the Bottle (2004), and a collection of poetry and photography, Enough Water (2006). She keeps a poetry blog at www.papayamaya.blogspot.com. 

Her poems and other writings have featured in: Lust for Life: Tales of Sex and Love, Margins Magazine, Clean Sheets, The Noe Valley Voice, Culture Star Reader, Ash Canyon Review, Nervy Girl magazine, 27 Powers, and literotica.com. 

Most recently, she won Blue Mountain Art’s annual poetry contest (2008), appeared in It All Changed in an Instant: More Six-Word Memoirs by Writes Famous & Obscure (2009), won first prize in Alimentum Journal’s inaugural poetry contest (2010), and will be featured in the upcoming book Creative is a Verb  by Patti Digh (November 2010).

Since June of 2005, Maya has been sending out an original 10-line poem every Tuesday to a list of email subscribers. To date, she has written more than 250 “10-line Tuesday” poems, and today, the email list totals nearly 600 readers worldwide.

In her spare time, Maya makes dioramas, cuts hair, plays basketball, invents cocktails, and plays a mean game of Scrabble.
